She's Here!/ Ya llego!

Miranda Isabella Leal was born on December 11th, 2008 (her due date!) at 8:27 AM. She was 7 lbs 5 oz and 19 inches long. She is cute a as button and has a dimpled chin just like daddy. Both mom and baby are doing great. Here are some pictures!

En la Recta Final/ In the Homestretch

Well, the end of November is here and just like that I am two weeks away from my due date. It seems like this pregnancy went by at light speed. All in all it has been, just like with Sofia, a very enjoyable experience. I love being pregnant and I am still feeling really good, so no complaints here!

We are pretty much ready for the baby and I have been busy finishing up at work. The nursery is ready (the only thing missing is the dresser which Rudy has to put together) and my mom is getting here tomorrow (yay!), so we should be all set. Last night we had our last dinner out as a family of 3 and it was bittersweet. It's been an amazing 6 years as our little trio and it seemed appropriate to close that chapter with the respect it deserves. We are now ready to become a foursome and we are excited to meet our new girl.

Of course, tomorrow is Thanksgiving and in a addition to my mom, my good friend Maria Jose is also coming to visit. Should be fun! Anyway, that is it for now. The baby could get here any day now so stay tuned for the arrival of the little Señorita Fru Fru.

Noviembre ya casi se acaba y asi como si nada ya me faltan solo dos semanas (o menos) en mi embarazo. De verdad que pareciera que estos nueve meses pasaron con la velocidad de la luz. Aun asi, ha sido una experiencia muy linda, al igual que con Sofia. A mi me encanta estar embarazada y aun me siento muy bien asi que no me quejo!

Ya casi todo esta listo para la beba y he estado cupada cerrando las cosas en mi trabajo. El cuarto de la nena ya esta listo (lo que falta es que Rudy arme el mueble de la ropa) y mi mami llega mañana (biee!!) asi que ya estamos listos. Anoche fuimos a cenar nosoros tres solitos por ultima vez y fue agridulce. Han sido 6 años maravillosos para nuestro trio y nos pareció apropiado cerrar ese capitulo con el respeto que merece. Ahora estamos listos para convertirnos en una familia de 4 y de verdad estamos muy emocionados por la llegada de nuestra nueva nena.

En otro tema, mañana es Acción de Gracias aqui y a parte de mi mami, mi querida amiga Maria Jose viene a visitarnos tambien. Seguro que la vamos a pasar muy bien. Y bueno, eso es todo por ahora. La beba puede llegar en cualquier momento de aqui en adelante asi que no cambien el canal para que no se pierdan la llegada de la Señorita Fru Fru (más) chiquita!

Halloween and more/ y más

Hello! So Halloween went by so fast! We had a great time, as always. We did our annual carving of the pumpkin and of course went trick or treating. Sofia was dressed as Tinkerbell and looked very cute. She got TONS of candy so she was happy as can be.

In other news, this past weekend my mother in law and Rudy's aunts threw a wonderful baby shower for me. It was lovely and we all had a good time. Salma Shakira Beyonce Mariah Miranda Julianna Paloma Josefina Guadalupe (we still cannot make up our mind) received lots beautiful presents. We are very thankful.

Everything else is going well. The belly keeps growing as it should and we get more and more excited everyday!

Hola! Halloween paso de lo mas rápido. La pasamos muy bien como siempre. El fin de semana antes de Halloween cumplimos con nuestra tradición y tallamos nuestra calabaza. Para Halloween Sofia se distfrazó de Campanita y se veia de lo más linda. Le dieron un montón de dulces asi que estaba de lo más contenta.

En otro tema, este fin de semana pasado mi suegra y las tias de Rudy me hicieron un baby shower muy lindo. Todo les quedo bello y la pasamos muy bien. Salma Shakira Beyonce Mariah Miranda Julianna Paloma Josefina Guadalupe (todavia no nos decidimos) recibió muchos regalos lindos y estamos muy agradecidos.

De resto todo va muy bien. La barriga sigue creciendo como debe y cada dia que pasa nos emocionamos más!

Hello! Sorry for the long absence. As most of you know, September was a trying month for most people in the Houston/Galveston area. Hurricane Ike passed through and left a big mess. The night of the storm was very frightening but fortunately we are all OK and our home did not suffer any damage. My brother and sister in law, however, were not so lucky as a tree fell on their house; which by the way was the house we were all riding the storm at. Shortly after the tree fell, Rudy fell down the stairs and cut his arm with the glass of a picture frame. It was like a movie and an experience I don't care to repeat. But by the grace of God we are all in one piece (including Rudy!) and thankful that it is now over.
After the storm passed we had many days without power, and no school for the kids. Rudy's office had no power either so he stayed with Sofia and her cousins. By the third day they were going crazy with boredom so he took them to the zoo and to the Children's Museum (which suffered minimal damage and were able to open). Sofia's school finally opened two weeks after the storm so now things are back to normal, for us at least.

In other news, Sofia graduated to a big girl bed! She loves it and it is very proud. Let's see what else...oh she cut a chunk of her hair! She tried to give herself bangs (lol!). See if you can spot it! What else...we finally have a name for the baby! She will be named Miranda Isabella. Rudy can't help it and still calls her Salma Shakira from time to time though haha! All is well with the belly, growing and growing as it should.

Hola! tanto tiempo! Como muchos de ustedes ya saben septiembre fue un mes dificil para la mayoria de la gente en Houston/Galveston. El Huracán Ike pasó por aqui y dejó un desastre. La noche de la tormenta fue tremenda pero gracias a Dios todos estamos bien y nuestra casa no tuvo daños. Lamentablemente, mis cuñados no tuvieron tanta suerte y un arbol cayó encima de su casa. Que vale la pena mencionar, era la casa en donde todos estabamos pasando la tormenta. Para más ñapa, justo despues que cayó el arbol, Rudy se cayó por las escaleras y se cortó un brazo con el vidrio de un portaretratos. Fué como una pelicula y es una experiencia que no me interesa volver a repetir. Gracias a Dios estamos todos en una pieza (incluyendo a Rudy!) y agradecidos de que ya pasó todo.
Despues del huracán estuvimos muchos dias sin luz y con las escuelas cerradas. La oficina de Rudy tampoco tenía electricidad entocnes Rudy se quedó con Sofia y sus primitos. Para le tercer dia ya estaban verdes del aburrimiento entocnes Rudy los llevó al Museo de los Niños y a el Zoológico (que no sufrieron grandes daños y pudieron abrir). la escuela de Sofia abrió dos semanas despues de la tormenta asi que ya todo volvió a la normalidad, para nosotros por lo menos.

En otras noticias, Sofia se graduó a una cama de niña grande! Está de lo ams contenta y orgulloza. A ver que más...Oh la nena se cortó un mechón de cabello. Se quizo poner una pollina (jajajajaja). A ver si se dan cuenta en las fotos. Que más...Oh ya tenemos nombre para la beba! Se va a llamar Miranda Isabella. Aunque a Rudy todavía se le sale decirle Salma Shakira jaja! Todo va muy bien con la barrigota.

Feliz cumpleaños tita Maritza!

Feliz Cumpleaños mami!!! Te queremos MUCHO!!! Recibe un abrazo grandotote de nuestra parte. Que pases un día espectacular!

1st day of 1st grade/ Primer dia de primer grado!

Believe it or not on August 20th Sofia started 1st grade! She was very excited to see her friends and to meet her teacher. Most of her classmates from Kindergarten came back for 1st grade so she was very happy. We are sure she is going to have a fantastic year!

In other news, Sofia and Rudy did a puzzle together. They worked on it for several days and were very proud of themselves when they finished it. Now that they are done they are using that time to have baseball practice outside. Sofia loves it!

Lastly, the belly continues to grow and all is well in that department. Sofia felt the baby kick in earnest the other day and she was extremely excited. It was very sweet.

Aunque no lo crean el 20 de Agosto Sofia entró a primer grado! Estaba muy emocionada y contenta de ver a sus amiguitos y de conocer a su maestra. La mayoría de sus compañeritos de Kinder tambien estan en primer grado con ella, entonces estaba super contenta. Estamos seguros de que va a tener un muy buen año escolar.

En otro tema, Sofia y Rudy hicieron un rompecabezas juntos. Les tomó varios días para terminarlo, pero cuando terminaron estaban de lo mas orgullozos de ellos mismos. Ahora que terminaron estan usando ese tiempo en las tardes para tener practica de baseball afuera. A Sofia le encanta!

Y por último, la barriguita sigue creciendo como Dios manda. Todo va muy bien en ese departamento. Sofia sintió a la beba dar pataditas el otro día y estaba super feliz. Fue de lo más tierno.

Hula Hoop Queen and Summer wrap up/Reina del hula hula y recuento del verano

Hello! Can you believe the summer is almost over? Where did time go? It seems I say this all the time but this year is really flying by. We had a great summer. Sofia went to summer camp and did lots of cool things like going to the zoo, the circus, the park, roller skating, the aquarium and lots more. She also did lots of swimming as you can tell by her lovely tan.

Rudy had a few days off so they got to do some neat things together, just the two of them. They played golf (which Sofia LOVED), went to a very cool park downtown and much more. We also went to the beach a couple of times and had a fantastic time. Oh and before I forget, Sofia also picked up a new skill this summer (just last week to be precise). She learned how to hoola hoop. And boy is she good! Check her out on the video above. I now call her "hula girl" hahaha!

In other news, all is well with the belly. Growing and growing as it should. I am almost 23 weeks (5 months) and feeling well. For those of you that don't know, we found out that it is a girl! We are very very happy and Sofia is simply thrilled to have a little sister, as she wanted. We'll see how she feels about that once she is actually here(!), but for now she is very happy. We don't have a name yet, although if it was up to Rudy and Sofia we would name her Salma Shakira Beyonce Mariah Leal. All the names of Rudy's crushes hahaha! Hopefully we'll pick a name one of these days!

Hola!! No lo podemos creer pero el verano ya casi se acaba! Yo se que digo esto todo el tiempo, pero honestamente este año se a ido volando! De todas formas tuvimos un muy buen verano. Sofia estuvo en un plan vacacional y de divirtio mucho. Fue al zoológico, al circo, al parque, a patinar, al acuario y a muchas otras partes. También se la pasó nadando en la piscina, como podran observar por su flamante bronceado.

Rudy tuvo unos dias a vacaciones y él y Sofia disfrutaron juntos. Fueron a jugar golf (que a Sofia le encantó), fueron a un parque nuevo que hay en el centro de la ciudad y muchas otras cosas. También tuvimos la opotunidad de ir a la playa unas cuantas veces y las pasamos excelentemente bien. A ver que más.. Oh Sofia aprendió como usar el hula hula. Apenas aprendió el viernes pasado y no es por nada pero es muy buena!! Veanla en el video arriba. Es de morirse de la risa!

En otras noticias todo va muy bien con la barriga. Creciendo como debe ser. Ya tengo casi 23 semanas (como 5 meses) y gracias a Dios me siento muy bien. Para los que no saben, ya nos dijeron que es una niña! Estamos muy felices y Sofia esta super mona que va a tener una hermanita como ella quería. Ya veremos como cambian las cosas (o no) cuando la beba este aqui (!) pero por ahora está muy contenta. Todavía no tenemos nombre para la beba. Si fuera por Rudy y Sofia se llamaría Salma Shakira Beyonce Mariah Leal por todas las artistas que le gustan a Rudy jajajaja! Un dia de estos escogeremos un nombre decente!

Lafayette

This past holiday weekend we went to Lafayette, Louisiana to visit my cousin Alejandra. I also got to see one of my very best friends from high school, when I lived in the Amazon. We reconnected through Facebook and oddly enough, have been living less than 4 hours away from each other for the past 4 years! It was wonderful seeing each other again after 15 years! We all had lunch together and spent a lovely afternoon talking non-stop (poor Sofia was bored to tears!). Later in the evening we all got see the fireworks celebrating the 4th of July and Sofia loved them. It was a great day.
It was lovely seeing Alejandra as well and finally getting to compare our bellies! We are neck and neck! Sofia had a ton of fun jumping on Alejandra's trampoline and playing with her cute little dog. All in all we had a delightful long weekend.

Este fin de semana pasado fuimos a Lafayette, Louisiana a visitar a mi prima Alejandra. También tuve la oportunidad de ver a una de mis mejores amigas de primaria/bachillerato, de cuando vivía en Los Pijiguaos. Nos reconectamos gracias a Facebook y resulta que hemos estado viviendo a menos de cuatro horas de distancia por los ultimos 4 años! Fue maravilloso vernos de nuevo despues de 15 años! Todos almorzamos juntos y pasamos una tarde divina hablando sin parar (aunque la pobre Sofia estaba verde del aburrimiento!). Luego en la nochecita todos fuimos a ver los fuegos artificiales celebrando el 4 de Julio y Sofia quedó fascinada. Fué un día de lo más chevere.

También fue muy rico ver a Alejandra y finalmente comparar nuestras barrigas. Estamos igual! Sofia gozo un puyero brincando en el trampolin y jugando con Malakias, el perrito de Alejandra. Total que la pasamos de lo más rico, fue un fin de semana excelente.

Hello! It's hard to believe but on the 10th of June our baby girl turned 6 years old! We celebrated on her actual birthday by doing two of Sofia's favorite things. We went to the movies and then we had some delicious sushi (well, just Sofia and Rudy actually) . Then later that evening we had cake at home and the family came to see Sofi on her day.

The following Saturday we had a party for Sofia at home. Her cousins, her friends and a few of her classmates came to celebrate with us. They had a great time getting wet in the sprinkler. Unfortunately we had a thunderstorm pass by and we were not able to get many pictures of them playing outside. Fortunately the rain was temporary and the sun came out again just in time for the piñata. All in all a great time was had by all.

Hola! Increible pero cierto, nuestra nena cumplió 6 años el 10 de este mes. El dia de su cumple lo celbramos haciendo dos de las cosas favoritas de Sofia. Fuimos a el cine a ver una pelicula y luego fuimos a comer sushi (bueno solo Rudy y Sofia comieron sushi, yo no puedo en mi condición jaja). Luego esa tarde le cantamos cumpleaños aqui en la casa junto a la familia.

El sabado siguiente le hicimos una fiesta a Sofia aqui en la casa. Sus primos, amiguitos y unas cuantas compañeritas de la escuela vinieron a celebrar con nosotros. Se divirtieron un mundo mojandose con la manguera y esas cosas en el patio. Lamentablemente una tormenta paso por aqui y no pudimos tomarles muchas fotos a los niños jugando afuera. Afortunadamente la lluvia fue pasajera y el sol salio justo a tiempo para partir la piñata. Dentro de todo la pasamos muy bien y los niños gozaron un puyero. Aqui van las fotos:

Graduation/Graduación

Hello there, it has been an exciting week at Casa Leal. On Tuesday Sofia "graduated" from kindergarten. They had a lovely ceremony with singing, diplomas and all that good stuff. Sofia was very happy and proud of herself. So are we, of course! It seems like it was just yesterday that she had her very first day at school and now, here we are, all ready for 1st grade! The next day, on the last day of school, I took the day off and spent the morning with her. The kids were crazy! They sure were ready for summer to begin. After she got out we picked up papi at work and went for a celebratory lunch. After that we took her to the Children's Museum and had a great time. It was a great day and we can't believe our baby is going to be a 1st grader!

Hola! Esta ha sido una semana muy emocionante en La Casa Leal. El martes Sofia se "graduó" del kinder! Tuvieron una ceremonia de lo más linda donde cantaron, les dieron sus diplomas y todas esas cosas cheveres. Sofia estaba muy contenta y orgullosa de si misma. Y por supuesto que nosotros también! Pareciera que fue ayer que apenas tuvo su primer dia de clases y ahora ya esta lista para 1er grado! El día siguiente, que era el último de clases, no fui a trabajar y me quedé con ella toda la mañana. Los chamos estaban como locos, listos para las vacaciones! Despues que salió de la escuela fuimos a buscar a papi y nos fuimos a almorzar para celebrar. Despues de comer nos fuimos a el Museo de los Niños y la pasamos de lo mejor. Fue un dia lindo y aun no podemos creer que nuetra bebé ya va para 1er grado!

We are Alive/Estamos Vivos!

Hello! Well what do you know... just like that another couple of months have flown by! Incredible that we are almost in the middle of April. The good news is that we've been busy having fun. First Rudy and I celebrated our 11th year of marriage! It seems unreal that it has been that long and that it has been a year since we went to Paris! Crazy I tell you. Then we had spring break. Rudy had to work unfortunately, but Sofia and I got to do a few fun things. First we went ice skating and she LOVED IT. She did pretty good for being her second time. By the 5th lap around the rink (and several falls) she was not holding onto anything. It was really really fun. The rest of spring break we went to the park, the mall and then Sofia spent some time with her beloved sitter Momo.

Next came Easter, which was great. Good company and good food, fantastic weather, what else can you ask for? The kids had a good time hunting for eggs and eating all that candy! Then on April 2nd, I became a US citizen! It was an exciting day. Rudy and Sofia were by my side during the ceremony and then we celebrated with a nice lunch. It was very special. Then this past Saturday, Rudy threw an "All American Barbecue" to celebrate. He went crazy decorating the house and grilled some awesome hamburgers and hot dogs. We were again blessed with magnificent weather and the kids enjoyed playing outside. We closed the evening with some apple pie and an a big announcement courtesy of Sofia. She happily told everyone that she is going to be a big sister! Yes, finally! It is still very early in my pregnancy but it looks like we'll be adding a new member to our little family come December. We are extremely happy.

Lastly, as is our tradition, we went to the Astros Opening Day Game! It was a lot of fun, we had a great time. And well, that is all for now. Here are some pictures!

Hola! Increible pero cierto, otros dos meses se han ido volando. De verdad me parece una locura que ya estemos a mitad de abril. Lo bueno es que la hemos pasado muy bien. Primero Rudy y yo celebramos otro aniversario de bodas, 11 años! Parece mentira que sean tantos y que ya hace un año que fuimos a Paris. Increible de verdad. Luego vinieron las vacaciones de primavera de la escuela, que este año coincidieron con semana santa. Rudy tuvo que trabajar desafortunadamente, pero Sofia y yo nos divertimos. Primero fuimos a patinar sobre hielo y a Sofia le fascinó. La verdad es que lo hizo muy bien para ser su segunda vez. Para la quinta vuelta a la pista (y varias caidas) ya lo hacía sin agarrarse de nada. Gozamos un puyero. El resto de la semana fuimos a el parque, a el centro comercial y luego Sofi paso unos dias con su adorada Momo (la señora que la cuidaba).

Luego vino el Domingo de Resurección o Pascuas como dicen aqui. La pasamos de lo mejor: en buena compañia, con comida rica y con un clima maravilloso. Que más se puede pedir? Los chamos se divirtieron mucho buscando los huevitos y comiendo dulces! Luego el 2 de abril me hice ciudadana americana, que tal?! Fue un día emocionante. Sofia y Rudy estuvieron a mi lado en la ceremonia y luego celebramos con un rico almuerzo. Fue muy especial. Este sabado pasado Rudy me hizo una parilla a la americana en la casa para celebrar. Se volvio loco decorando la casa y las hamburguesas y perros calientes le quedaron muy ricos. Cerramos la noche con broche de oro comiendo tarta de manzana y con la noticia, trasmitida por una feliz Sofia, de que por fin va a tener un hermanito (a)! Por fin! jajaja. Apenas tengo unas semanitas pero si parece que en diciembre nuestra familia tendrá otro miembro. Estamos muy felices!

Hello! Sorry it's been so long. Lots of things have happened in the past couple of months that have kept us away from the blog, but 2008 started with a bang and we plan to have a fantastic year. We hope that you do too!
The holidays were most excellent. Tita Maritza and Sol (Lib's godmother) came to visit. Tia Alejandra also came to spend New Year's Eve with us. We really enjoyed their company and as expected, Sofia was spoiled rotten!
Libertad had another birthday (we won't say how many) and we celebrated with the family. We did all sorts of cool things and all in all, we had a wonderful time. We haven't really taken a lot of new pictures because we barely got our camera replaced 1 week ago (our old one was stolen in a break-in). We will try to make up for lost time, so hopefully, the next post won't take 6 weeks! For the time being, here are some pictures we did manage to take in the last few weeks.

Hola mi gente! Disculpen la ausencia. Los últimos meses han sido un poco acontecidos para nuestra familia y lamentablemente eso nos ha mantenido alejados de el blog. Lo bueno es que el 2008 comenzó con muy buen pié y tenemos planes de que sea un año espectacular para nosotros. Esperamos que para ustedes también.
Tita Maritza y Sol (mi madrina) vinieron a visitarnos y Alejandra también se pasó por estos lares para pasar el año nuevo con nostros. Nos encantó tenerlas de vistia, de verdad la pasamos muy bien. Y como lo sopechamos, Sofia estuvo super consentida!
Yo estuve de cumpleaños (no hablemos de cuantos ! jajaja) y la familia me acopañó a celebrarlo. También hicimos hallacas, paseamos y disfrutamos un montón. No hemos tomado muchas fotos ultimamente porque apenas reemplazamos la camara hace una semana (se metieron a robar a nuetra casa). Asi que trataremos de compesar por el tiempo perdido. Por ahora aqui les van las que si pudimos tomar recientemente.
